Counseling
General Counseling is a “one-stop shop” to help facilitate your educational endeavors which we hope will culminate in you graduating from LACC and/or transferring to a university. Through our online and in-person services you will be able to:

Identify your academic path and goals (e.g., certificate, associate degree, associate degree for transfer)

Enroll in courses that align with your general education and major requirements which are mapped and reflected in your student education plan (SEP)

Be more knowledgeable and aware of campus policies, processes, procedures, and resources to help you complete your academic path and goals
Making an Appointment
Schedule an Appointment
(30-60 min)
Appointments are 30-60 minute conversations and can be scheduled to meet over the phone, on Zoom, or in person for any of the following:
- Comprehensive education plans
- Transcript evaluations
- Financial aid appeals
- Academic probation appeals
- Graduation checks and graduation petitioning
Appointment slots are released on a "rolling" basis where the system will automatically search for openings for the following week or if cancellations occur during the current week.
If there are no appointments, please check tomorrow morning to find options for the next business day. We schedule one week in advance and are not open on Saturday or Sunday. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Express Counseling

(10-15 min)
Express counseling is available as a 10-15 minute conversation with a counselor remotely (Cranium) or visit us in person (M-TH 9-3pm) on the 2nd floor of Student Services Building for any of the following:
- Prerequisite clearances
- Course advisement
- Information about associate degree/certificate programs
- General education patterns
- IGETC / CSU GE-Breadth inquiries
- Update major, education goal, or home college
- Information about important enrollment deadlines and registration assistance
- Clarification of college academic policies and procedures
- Assistance with various forms/petitions such as:
academic renewal, course repeat, pass/non pass, unit overload, etc. - Information about campus support resources and/or programs
* If you need more than 10-15 minutes, you will be referred to schedule a counseling appointment.

If you are a student who wants to explore more extensively with a counselor in a specific major or CAP (Career & Academic Pathway), we have dedicated counselors who are working with the academic departments and their faculty to help you. Our CAP counselors can answer your questions for all general academic advising matters and majors.

Visit our General Counseling office for in-person Express Counseling or our online Express Counseling lobby during normal hours of operation:

Email us at prereqs@lacitycollege.edu and put in the subject line "Your Name - Student ID# - the LACC course(s) you intend to take." Please attach a copy of your transcript (unofficial is acceptable) that clearly shows the college name, your name, the course title, the term taken, and the final grade received. A counselor will evaluate if your coursework meets the stated pre- or corequisite of our LACC course(s) and will clear you accordingly. Thank you!
No, when students with outside coursework or external exams (e.g., APs, IBs, CLEPs) from other colleges and institutions outside of LACCD forward official transcripts or exams to LACC, it does not automatically clear prerequisites nor get evaluated for applicable credits. Please request for such through our counseling services.
