Prerequisite Information
What are Prerequisites?
Prerequisites are specific course(s) or levels of preparation required to complete before enrolling in a course.
Prerequisite clearance is not automatic when you send official transcripts from an institution outside of LACC to our Admissions Office.
You can simply provide a counselor a copy of an unofficial transcript verifying your name, the regionally accredited college, the course, and the grade earned for review.
High School, Foreign Coursework, & External Exams
- We do not use high school coursework to clear college-level prerequisites.
- We can use college coursework completed at appropriate foreign institutions to clear prerequisites.
- We can use external exams (e.g., AP, IB, CLEP) with a minimum passing score to clear prerequisites (e.g., an AP English Language & Composition score of 3, 4, or 5 would be approved for our courses requiring English 101 as a prerequisite).
How To Request a Prerequisite Clearance
Email Us
Email us at @email and put in the subject line "Your Name - Student ID# - the LACC course(s) you intend to take." Please attach a copy of your transcript (unofficial is acceptable) that clearly shows the college name, your name, the course title, the term taken, and the final grade received. A counselor will evaluate if your coursework meets the stated pre- or corequisite of our LACC course(s) and will clear you accordingly
