Campus Improvements


Los Angeles City College and Build-LACCD are pleased to share important updates on campus renovation and construction projects aimed at enhancing accessibility, safety, and sustainability. These projects include renovations, new buildings, and essential infrastructure and security upgrades, all designed to create a safer, more secure, and student-focused learning environment at LACC.

Main Quad Enhancements

  • Exterior WiFi Points: Expanding wireless access across the Main Quad.
  • Hydronic Lines Replacement: Replacing leaking and deteriorated chilled and hot water piping to ensure reliable cooling and heating in classrooms.
  • Safety Blue Phones with Cameras: Installing new safety alert stations with cameras to enhance security.
  • New Trees and Outdoor Seating: Enhancing green spaces and comfort for outdoor learning and relaxation.
  • Drought Tolerant Landscaping: Introducing sustainable plant choices to conserve water and beautify our campus.
  • New Exterior LED Lighting:   Enhancing pathway lighting and lumen brightness for well-lit areas for nighttime visibility.

  • Estimated Completion: Fall 2025
  • Location: Main Quad
  • Funding Source: This project is funded through Measure J, Measure CC, and Measure LA

Impact and Logistics

  • A temporary water shut-off to the Hydronic Water Lines that will affect the Heating/Air Conditioning in Da Vinci Hall, Holmes Hall, Student Services Building, Student Union, and the Faculty & Staff Center. This will take place beginning Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, and last until Wednesday, March 25th, 2025. Water for restrooms and drinking fountains will not be impacted
  • Fencing has been placed throughout campus requiring detours to reach buildings along the quad area. Signage has been posted, and anyone that would like assistance navigating these detours may call our Campus Sheriff's Office at (323)953-4005 to request a courtesy escort.

The Main Quad: A Look Into the Future

Cesar Chavez Administration Building Construction

A new Cesar Chavez Administration building to bring new classrooms, office spaces, and multipurpose rooms to enhance the campus community.

Project Details

  • Construction Start Date: Monday, March 17th, 2025
  • Location: Main Quad

Impact and Logistics

  • Installation of construction fencing around the entire Main Quad begins Monday, March 17, 2025.
  • Demolition of the stairs leading to the Theater will begin the week of March 24, 2025.
  • Initial work will focus on constructing new stairs on the west side of the Theater, along with the demolition of the main stairs, removal of the entry canopy, and underground utility work.
  • New designated food truck locations will be established on the North and South ends of campus.
  • Picnic tables will be relocated to the North and South portions of campus to accommodate students.
  • Signage will be posted along the new fence as well as throughout campus showing the new detours, and anyone that would like assistance navigating these detours may call our Campus Sheriff's Office at (323)953-4005 to request a courtesy escort.

Cesar Chavez Administration Building: A Look Into the Future

EWD Building Demolition and New Theater Arts Building

A new Theater Arts building with updated Theater spaces, classrooms, and student gathering spaces.

Project Details

  • Demolition Start Date: End of March 2025
  • Location: EWD Building between Student Union and Da Vinci Hall

Impact and Logistics

  • New construction fencing will be installed around the EWD area.
  • Pedestrian pathways will be adjusted to maintain access to the Herb Alpert Music Center, Da Vinci Hall, and Franklin Hall.
  • Signage will be posted along the new fence as well as throughout campus showing the new detours, and anyone that would like assistance navigating these detours may call our Campus Sheriff's Office at (323)953-4005 to request a courtesy escort.
