Veterans Education Benefits and Certification

New Students (requesting certification for the first time at LACC)

1. Apply to LACC. 
2. Determine your eligibility for VA Education Benefits and apply for education benefits at https://www.va.gov/education/eligibility/. You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility letter (COE) if you have been determined eligible to use education benefits.
3. Schedule a counseling appointment with a Veterans Resource Center (VRC) Counselor to complete a Comprehensive Student Education Plan. https://laccd.craniumcafe.com/group/vrc/scheduler
4. Enroll into courses as indicated on education plan.
5. Request certification of VA Benefits by completing the VA Education Benefits Certification Request Form: tinyurl.com/lacccertifyme or https://forms.office.com/r/1ZWUtXS05Y . When submitting the form please have the following documents ready to upload:
   • Chapter 31 (Veteran Readiness and Employment/VR&E): DD214, VR 67 Decision Letter, Student Educational Plan, Class Schedule
   • Chapters 30 (Montgomery): DD214, Certificate of Eligibility, Student Educational Plan, Class Schedule
   • Chapter 33 (Post-9/11): DD214, Certificate of Eligibility, Student Educational Plan, Class Schedule.
   • Chapter 35 (Survivors & Dependents): DD214 of Veteran, Certificate of Eligibility, Student Educational Plan, Class Schedule.
   • Chapter 1606 (Montgomery Selected Reserve): DD2384, Certificate of Eligibility, Student Educational Plan, Class Schedule

IMPORTANT: Veterans and dependents must submit a certification request form for EVERY semester they wish to use GI Bill® Benefits. Adds and drops for veterans and dependents must be reported to the LACC Veterans Resource Center as soon as possible. Failing to do so may result in an overpayment or underpayment.​​​​​​​

Continuing Students (re-certifying at LACC)

1. Schedule a counseling appointment with a Veterans Resource Center (VRC) Counselor to update your Comprehensive Student Education Plan. https://laccd.craniumcafe.com/group/vrc/scheduler
2. Enroll into courses as indicated on education plan.
3. Request certification of VA Benefits by completing the VA Education Benefits Certification Request Form: tinyurl.com/lacccertifyme or https://forms.office.com/r/1ZWUtXS05Y . ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​If you have previously submitted your DD214 and Certification of Eligibility to the VRC, you do not need to resubmit these documents, you are only required to submit your Student Educational Plan and Class Schedule.
