My name is Christopher Hernando. I graduated in Spring 2016. My experience with Trio/SSS was very fortunate. With the guidance and mentorship, I am able to accomplish my goals and transfer to Cal State LA. I could not have accomplished this if I did not have the encouragement and relationship built with them. Not only have I grown up during my time at LACC, but I take the valuable lessons into my future endeavors.
I am very grateful to you all. Thank you so much for leading me towards my goal and unlocking my potential

Thanks to Trio/SSS, I am one step closer to reaching my educational goal, which is to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at a UC. I am beyond excited to start a new chapter in my life. I acquired all the support that I needed and was able to follow an educational plan created by my counselors. Without Trio/SSS, I know that I wouldn't have been able to complete my personal statement, stay on track with which classes to take next, or submit accurate information online. When I first stepped into LACC I did not know I would receive an Associate's degree or walk across the stage. Unbelievably, it actually happened. I received three AA's in Psychology and walked the stage where my professors, friends, and family cheered me on. I'm truly blessed to have met such amazing counselors. The one-on-one counseling was something that I know I would have not received elsewhere. Words cannot express how thankful I am. Trio/SSS was like a little secret club. Our trips to various universities were memorable. This will always be my favorite part about college.

My participation in Trio/SSS has been very advantageous in my personal and educational development. As a first-generation Hispanic student with little background information on college, as well as its feasibility, Trio/SSS provided me the necessary service in order to be knowledgeable about my educational objectives. Trio/SSS was also a great environment to de-stress and to goof around with other like-minded peers; I still remember all the silly shenanigans we involved ourselves in when school wasn’t the focus. These minds were also a source of stability due to our common ground as undergrad students at a community college. Trio/SSS allowed me to create these bonds with these goal-driven individuals. To sum it all up, Trio/SSS exposed me to many things considered of high value in life: some were friends, nature, learning experiences, kind people, and ultimately, knowledge. I graduated with an Associate’s degree in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and now I am transferring to Cal State Dominguez Hills for fall 2016. In CSUDH I will pursue my bachelor’s degree in Public Administration where I will learn the necessary skills to surf through my administrative career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
