Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the attacks on our homeland that claimed nearly 3,000 lives at the World Trade Center, Shanksville, Pa., and the Pentagon. On the anniversary of 9/11, we should all take time today to remember those who lost their lives and the friends and loved ones left behind. Today, join together to remember and honor them.
Last Thursday, August 31, was the opening reception of the VAMA Manners: A Faculty Exhibition at the VAMA Gallery in DaVinci Hall. The exhibition will run through September 21, 2023.
Also last Thursday, August 31, LACC hosted “Demo Day,” the final day of LACC’s Summer Emerging Tech Bootcamp. Two teams comprised of 14 LACC students presented their final pitches to a panel of judges. The students for the past 10 weeks have been working with 2 industry coaches from JPL to solve space mission challenges. For the first 6 weeks, industry speakers were brought in from AWS, Slalom, UCLA and JPL to present current industry topics such as UI/UX, How to Pitch, Project Management and Professional Development.
TimelyCare, a virtual health provider, is now available to students providing FREE 24/7 mental health support and basic needs assistance. Students can login at the TimelyCare app or can sign up via timelycare.com/lacitycollege. Please let your students know.
Our Cubby’s Closet is open for the fall semester. The ASG is accepting any donations of gently used clothing, shoes, toys, and luggage, as well as any new undergarments and socks. All donations can be dropped off at the Office of Student Life Monday through Thursday 9:30am to 4:30pm, Friday 8am to 2pm.
Athletics is back in the swing of things for the 2023-24 season. The season is underway for our Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, and Men's Soccer teams. Men's Basketball is set to begin November 10th. We would love to see our LACC family at a game or two this year. Our first Coffee with the President for faculty and staff is scheduled for Monday, September 18 from 9am to 10am in the President’s Conference Room. We are rescheduling the department specific Coffee with the President meeting dates so more of you can attend. Please check your email for an updated list of dates and times.

Join us and learn about how to manage your finances! We will have workshops on creating a budget, building credit, and understanding Financial Aid. If you attend one of these workshops, you will receive free food. In addition to the workshops, we will also have banking institutions and non-profit orgs outside of Holmes Hall from 11-1pm to help guide you to unlock your financial potential.
