Good Monday morning,

As we begin Week 5, we have managed to maintain our enrollment numbers, which is a very good sign. Winter is moving into spring. This weekend we will move our clocks forward on Sunday, March 12 for daylight savings. And, due to all of the rain that we have had lately, our campus is looking green and beautiful.

At our accreditation site visit last week, we came through the process with no recommendations. This means that I expect we will be fully reaffirmed with no sanctions at the ACCJC meeting in June. The preparation for this outcome took about two years and was led by our Accreditation Liaison Office, VP Jim Lancaster and our Faculty Accreditation Co-Chair Dr. Nate Lorentz. Below is a complete listing of all those who participated on the four accreditation standards. Special mention goes to Professor Jeffrey Nishimura for editing the report; Professor Anna Le and Professor Michael Miklos for the work on completing our program review for this year to demonstrate our ongoing process of improvement; Tania Yanez for her amazing ability to locate evidence; Kylie Thomas for all of the research work for the report; and Michelle Rodriguez for all of the organizing. There are so many more who helped with  this tremendous effort that resulted in showing the accrediting commission the great work done at Los Angeles City College. LACC shines again!

This week we will be spotlighting Cubby’s Closet on local morning news channel CBS, where we will be having live interviews during breakout times at 7:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am and 10:30am. Broadcasts will be live so please share and watch!

March is Women’s History Month and we will have our districtwide Annual Women’s History Month Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, March 29, from 2pm to 4pm. The theme this year is “Women Who Tell Our Stories.” We have invited our four LACCD Trustees who are women to join us as our special keynote speakers this year. There are four women who now have the majority vote on our LACCD Board of Trustees. I am very proud to host and celebrate this historic time.

This month we will also be hosting Midterm Meals offering a free $15 Cub Store credit for the first 500 enrolled students for Friday March 24, Monday March 27, Tuesday March 28, and Wednesday March 29. LACC student ID will be required.

LACC Foundation is in need of volunteers to participate in the Spring 2023 LACC Foundation Scholarship Review Committee. The task of the committee will be to review and rate scholarship applications to identify scholarship recipients.

Participation in the scholarship committee requires minimal time commitment. We anticipate the scholarship application review period to take place from Monday, March 6th through Monday, March 27th. The review process is performed on-line at your own pace and convenience. The Foundation needs as many volunteers as possible to review scholarship applicants. The opportunity to participate in the scholarship review application process is a great way to engage on campus and get to learn about our students. If you are interested in volunteering, please email info@laccfoundation.org.

Congratulations to LACC’s winners of the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) awards from the Black History Month Celebration Mixer last week. They include Tony Clark, Rey Garcia, Cheryl Smiley, and Naeemah Payne.

Thank you to everyone on our Accreditation Team:
