This Week @ City - February 13, 2023
Good Monday morning,
Week 2 of Spring 2023 is here. This is the last week students can add classes. Students can visit the Welcome Center for assistance and find classes at: https://www.lacitycollege.edu/academics/class-schedules. Our enrollment remains good and steady. Please be sure to get your rosters in on time so that we have an actual count of where we stand with enrollment.
Beginning Friday, February 17 through Monday, February 20, you are off for the Presidents holidays. I hope you all enjoy a nice long weekend!
As the spring semester gets underway, we have a lot going on around campus. Last week, our new Cubby’s Closet opened offering students free gently used and new clothing and accessories. Located in the Student Union, 2nd floor, students can check in and pick up a free outfit once a month. Hours are Monday to Thursday, noon to 2pm. You can donate items in the ASG Office from Monday to Thursday, 10am to 6pm.
To celebrate Black History Month we have some events including this Wednesday, February 15, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room from 12noon until 2pm, please join us for Black History Month Moment where we will be screening a series of short documentaries about history makers in the Black diaspora. Mark you calendars for our February 21st Wakanda Forever movie night, our February 23 Candid Convos event, and our February 28 luncheon with artist Michael Massenburg.
You can also register for the February 23 Black History Celebration at the Lavender Blue Restaurant Lounge in Inglewood at 6pm, $25 donation, register at https://laccdbfsaspring2023mixer.eventbrite.com. The LACCD Black Faculty and Staff Association are accepting nominations for the “Dedicated Leadership” and “Community Grass Roots Leadership” awards, nominations can be emailed to @email by Wednesday, February 15.
Mark your calendar for our Lunar New Year celebration on Tuesday, February 21 from 11:30am to 1pm in the Main Quad that includes Asian cuisine, gifts, and traditional Asian performances.
We spent a lot of time preparing for and completing items for our ACCJC (Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges) accreditation. The accreditation process assists colleges in improving institutional effectiveness to ensure colleges offer high quality educational programs and services. A small team will visit us all day on March 1 and the morning of March 2. We will share the outcome of this visit and the affirmation for accreditation process. We will have a Town Hall on the accreditation visit outcome the afternoon of March 2. Please mark your calendars – we will have light refreshments.
The campus will be closed this Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20.
