More about the plays:
#gunsense by Clarinda Ross speaks to the heart of America’s gun debate. The main storyline, which takes place from 1976 -1994, depicts a caring father/daughter relationship that includes a love of sport-shooting. Scenes from today’s epidemic of gun violence are set against the backdrop of what sensible gun ownership looked like only a generation ago. The play ends on the hopeful note of the Assault Weapons ban being signed into law by President Bill Clinton. #gunsense frames the need for common-sense reforms by examining our not-too-distant past, it is possible to see a way forward.
Waiting by the Ocean for You, a new play by Destiny Keller (LACC Class of 2021) presents three people from different backgrounds, who create a bond during their treatment and recovery from addiction. The threesome quickly turns from friends to a chosen family as they ride the waves of recovery, relapse, loss and triumphs. This new play shines a light into the dark corners of addiction, illuminating the fact that addicts and alcoholics are complex people full of love, grief, and hope.
