Welcome to the Radiologic Technology Department
The Radiologic Technology Degree Program at Los Angeles City College prepares you to work as a Radiologic Technologist in the medical field. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Examination (ARRT) and pursue a Radiologic Technology License in the state of California. The Radiologic Technology Program aligns with Los Angeles City College’s goal of preparing students for a career pathway in a thriving industry.
The Radiologic Technology program provides all the necessary skills to seek employment immediately after passing the licensure examinations.
Program Length: Two years (after completion of required prerequisite and general education courses)
After Rad Tech Program Completion: Students will receive all of the following:
AS Degree, Certificate of Completion, Fluoroscope Certificate, Venipuncture Certificate

Instructions for New Applicants
The application period opens every year on February 1st (8:00 am PST) and closes on March 31st (5:00 pm PST). The website will have a link and QR code for applicants to apply:
*The application will not be available until Feb. 1st.
Students may apply with classes in progress. However, all General Education (GE) courses to earn an A.S. degree and the seven (7) prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester of the year of application. For the list of the required seven prerequisite classes, please check the program brochure on our RT website.
Required Volunteer Hours
The forty (40) volunteer hours at a diagnostic imaging center (hospital or clinical outpatient setting) requirement is in effect as of 2024. If you apply and are selected via lottery, you must submit the volunteer form and letter by June 15.

Application Timeline
Pre-Application
There are seven prerequisite classes. Please check the program brochure on our RT website.
Students may apply with classes in progress. However, to earn an A.S. degree, all general education (GE) courses and the seven prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester of the year of application.
February 1
The Rad Tech Program application opens online at 12 AM PST each year.
March 31
The application period closes at 5 PM PST.
NOTE: Students must apply each year. Only students who meet the requirements and deadline will be placed in a pool for the lottery selection.
June 15
All official transcripts must be sent to the college via mail or email (@email) by 5 pm PST.
The required 40 volunteer hours form and letter are due by this deadline.
July
By early July, the Application Review Committee will meet to review all applications and documents.
By the mid to end of July (date TBD), the committee will do a lottery selection and notify all applicants of their status. Please make sure you are checking your LACC student email.

In early August, the RT Application Review Committee will do an intake appointment with the students. A To-Do list, textbooks, and the schedule of classes will be shared with students.
Before the Fall semester, students must attend a mandatory New Student Orientation on campus.

The Rad Tech Student Manual is where prospective students, cohort students, and the public can learn about our program's policies and procedures, including standards of student expectations and conduct that are applicable to our Radiologic Technology students
Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes
Prepare students to be ethical, professional, and clinically competent entry-level Radiologic Technologists.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students will perform routine radiographic examinations.
- Students will possess knowledge of radiographic procedures and patient care.
- Students will employ radiation protection to patients, themselves and others.
- Students will use ethical practices in health care delivery.
