Welcome to the Radiologic Technology Department

The Radiologic Technology Degree Program at Los Angeles City College prepares you to work as a Radiologic Technologist in the medical field. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Examination (ARRT) and pursue a Radiologic Technology License in the state of California. The Radiologic Technology Program aligns with Los Angeles City College’s goal of preparing students for a career pathway in a thriving industry.


The Radiologic Technology program provides all the necessary skills to seek employment immediately after passing the licensure examinations.


Program Length: Two years (after completion of required prerequisite and general education courses)

After Rad Tech Program Completion: Students will receive all of the following:
AS Degree, Certificate of Completion, Fluoroscope Certificate, Venipuncture Certificate

Instructions for New Applicants

The application period opens every year on February 1st (8:00 am PST) and closes on March 31st (5:00 pm PST). The website will have a link and QR code for applicants to apply:
*The application will not be available until Feb. 1st.

Students may apply with classes in progress. However, all General Education (GE) courses to earn an A.S. degree and the seven (7) prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester of the year of application. For the list of the required seven prerequisite classes, please check the program brochure on our RT website.


Required Volunteer Hours

The forty (40) volunteer hours at a diagnostic imaging center (hospital or clinical outpatient setting) requirement is in effect as of 2024. If you apply and are selected via lottery, you must submit the volunteer form and letter by June 15.

Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes

Prepare students to be ethical, professional, and clinically competent entry-level Radiologic Technologists.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will perform routine radiographic examinations.
  • Students will possess knowledge of radiographic procedures and patient care.
  • Students will employ radiation protection to patients, themselves and others.
  • Students will use ethical practices in health care delivery.

Cultivate Radiologic Technology students who utilize effective interpersonal skills with patients, peers, instructors, clinical partners, and the communities they serve.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will communicate, both verbally and nonverbally in a professional manner with the patient.

  • Students will discuss effective communication in the clinical environment.

Educate Radiologic Technology students to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills to adapt and perform job-related functions.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will alter their approach to complete examinations for patients of different age groups.

  • Students will evaluate radiographic images for adequate positioning, density/brightness, contrast, and recorded detail/spatial resolution.

Empower Radiologic Technology students to grow, develop, and become members of professional organizations that foster career growth.

  • Students will evaluate career opportunities and advancement for the radiographer.

  • Students will analyze the career growth opportunities gained from being involved in a professional medical imaging organization.

  • Students will create a professional portfolio that illustrates growth with their careers.

The mission of the Radiologic Technology program at Los Angeles City College is to provide an accessible and equitable learning environment to promote our radiologic technology students with the technical and interpersonal skills necessary to provide our diverse local and global communities with high-quality diagnostic medical images and patient care as professional diagnostic medical radiographers.
