Human Services Program

Our Human Services program specifically trains students for career opportunities in a wide range of human health services, including mental health and addiction counseling. The programs can be completed in less than 2 years or at a slower pace to accommodate your work or other life obligations. We offer day, evening, weekend, and online classes to meet the varied needs of our student population.

Students in the Human Services program focus on three core areas: academic study, communication skills, and career training. Academic preparation is offered in basic psychology courses such as Introductory Psychology, Personality and Social Development, and Abnormal Psychology. A second component of the program concentrates on developing important communication skills and self-awareness through participation in group dynamics courses, which are conducted as interactive workshops for the purpose of engaging in and learning about the group process. The career training focus of the program guides students through three fieldwork courses, which are coordinated and taught by a faculty member. Fieldwork courses provide students an opportunity to complete internships in a wide array of human services settings where they learn hands-on career technical education and explore career opportunities.

Employment of social and human service professionals is projected to grow 17% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations

Degree and Certificate Pathways

Students in our Human Services program can specialize in two areas of study. Some students choose to focus on developing skills in our Addiction Studies pathway. Other students with broader human services interests focus on our Generalist/Mental Health Studies pathway. Associate in Arts degrees and Certificates of Achievement are available for both pathways.
