Welcome to Ceramics at LACC!

Ceramics hold a long, storied, and significant place not only in art history but also in our understanding of cultures around the globe. Considering your heritage and daily life, the use of ceramics has played—and will continue to play—a subtle yet important role in our society. Building on this history, our classes guide students through the fundamentals of working with clay, introducing both new and traditional techniques. You will learn to redefine the use of this material beyond functional objects and begin to develop your own artistic vocabulary. In addition to mastering clay techniques, students will focus on experimentation and the exploration of ideas. Concepts are as valuable as the skills you acquire; therefore, we emphasize critical reasoning, creativity, and the ability to express ideas in evocative, provocative, and dynamic ways.
