Child & Family Studies / Dietetics

Welcome to the Child & Family Studies / Dietetics Department

The Department of Child & Family Studies / Dietetics at Los Angeles City College provides a curriculum that includes theory and practice, preparing students to earn vocational career certificates, degrees, and become transfer and workforce-ready.

Our highly trained and experienced faculty instruct students in state-of-the-art facilities. To assist students in meeting their academic goals, the Child Development program administers two dynamic support programs that include the Child Development Training Consortium and the California Early Childhood Mentor Teacher Program.

The Child Development Program curriculum prepares students to teach or administer programs for young children and infants. Courses allow students to prepare for increasingly higher levels of employment and certification in early childhood programs or other related fields in early care and education.

Nutrition and Dietetics

The Nutrition and Dietetics Program curriculum for both Dietetic Service Supervisors and Dietary Managers provides course and fieldwork and hands-on experiences in therapeutic and clinical nutrition, food service management and food production through on-campus events and simulated restaurant experience.

If you are planning a career in food services, the LACC Dietetic Service Supervisor Program, with Dietary Manager Exam eligibility, may be the pathway to your success.
